A-Rod's wife alleges infidelity in divorce papers

Alex Rodriguez's wife filed for divorce Monday, calling her husband an adulterer who "emotionally abandoned his wife and children."

"The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct," according to Cynthia Rodriguez's petition for dissolution of marriage, filed in the family division of Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.

The New York Yankees third baseman, who earned his 12th All-Star selection Sunday, has refused to comment on his relationship with Madonna, who denied any romantic involvement with the slugger in a statement posted Sunday on people.com.

"The petitioner has exhausted every effort to salvage the marriage of the parties," Cynthia Rodriguez said in the filing. "However, Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him."

Rodriguez's attorney in Miami, Ira M. Elegant, said he had not reviewed the divorce petition but added: "As you know, anyone can pay the filing fee and make allegations."

Elegant also represents NBA star Shaquille O'Neal in his ongoing divorce from his wife, Shaunie.

A telephone message left for a Rodriguez spokesman Monday was not immediately returned.

The couple, who married in November 2002, have a $12 million, six-bedroom house in the upscale Miami suburb of Coral Gables. A company run by a corporation controlled by Rodriguez bought an apartment at Trump Park Avenue in Manhattan for $7.4 million in July 2005.

Cynthia Rodriguez has asked for primary custody of their two children, as well as child support and alimony.

Their two daughters are Natasha Alexander, 3, and 2-month-old Ella Alexander.

The filing comes just days after the third baseman was linked to Madonna in various media outlets. Cynthia Rodriguez later visited the Paris home of rocker Lenny Kravitz, who said she came to France to escape the media frenzy in New York and denied anything improper.

Cynthia Rodriguez's lawyer, Maurice Kutner, declined to elaborate on the filing, which does not mention Madonna or any other alleged paramours by name.

"Cynthia has made it very clear to me that she wants to take the high road and protect her children and herself. There's no vindictiveness here," Kutner said. "She wants to resolve the issues between Alex and herself in an amicable fashion."

The couple has had prenuptial agreement in place since Oct. 3, 2002, according to the divorce papers.

The divorce petition was filed the day after Rodriguez hit his 536th homer, tying Yankees Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle for 13th place.

Rodriguez is in the first season of a $275 million, 10-year contract with the Yankees, a deal that allows him to earn up to $305 million. He made $185.45 million from 2001-7 from his contract with the Texas Rangers and Yankees.

Wife of Yankees slugger "A-Rod" files for divorce

The wife of New York Yankees superstar Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez filed for divorce in Miami on Monday, citing the slugger's alleged infidelities.

"The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extra martial affairs and other marital misconduct," Cynthia Rodriguez said in papers filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.

She did not elaborate on her reasons for seeking dissolution of the nearly six-year-old marriage, saying only that she had "exhausted every effort to salvage the marriage."

But the court filing followed recent media reports suggesting that the 32-year-old All-Star was involved with pop star Madonna, 49.

Madonna denied having an affair with Rodriguez on Sunday and said, in a statement to People magazine, she was not planning to get divorced from her British husband, film director Guy Ritchie.

"I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study," she said.

Madonna and the Yankee player share an interest in the Kabbalah religion, a mystical form of Judaism, according to media reports.

The Rodriguezes, who own a waterfront home in Coral Gables, Florida, have two children and Cynthia Rodriguez said she wanted exclusive possession of the house for herself and the children.

She is also seeking child support and various cash payouts from Rodriguez.

"The husband is well able to pay all forms of alimony," the court papers said.

In December, Alex Rodriguez signed a 10-year, $275 million contract with the Yankees, making him the highest-paid player in baseball.

An attorney for Alex Rodriguez was not immediately available for comment but the court said he had 20 days to respond to the divorce petition in writing.

A-Rod, wife to file for divorce

Yankees star Alex Rodriguez and his estranged wife, Cynthia, will both file for divorce Monday with she blaming their busted marriage on his "long period of infidelity" and he citing her reluctance to reconcile.

The couple will send their high-priced legal teams racing to a family court in Miami Monday morning to fire the first shots in what is expected to be an ugly fight, the Daily News has learned. The nasty battle will boil down to custody of their two children, the youngest just 11 weeks old, and A-Rod's multimillion-dollar baseball and commercial endorsement fortune.

At the crux of their charges to be filed in Miami-Dade County Family Court will be:

- Her claim that she can no longer tolerate his cheating with a string of beauties.

- His claim that she is not serious about patching up their five-year marriage.

News from the dueling divorce camps came on a day when pop icon Madonna adamantly denied she broke up Rodriguez's marriage by using kabbalah to brainwash the slugger into believing they are soul mates.

Even as the "Papa Don't Preach" singer insisted, "I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage," Cynthia Rodriguez's lawyer said A-Rod's shenanigans with the 49-year-old Material Girl was "the final straw."

"She has reached the end of her ability to tolerate his continued marital misconduct," lawyer Earle Lilly told The News. "As a baseball player, the guy's terrific. This is the game of real life, and that's where he's not going to make the all-star team. As a parent and as a husband, he's not going to get voted in."

As details of his love life swirled off the field, A-Rod helped the Bombers beat the Red Sox, 5-4, by hitting his 536th homer of his career, tying Mickey Mantle for 13th on the all-time home-run list.

Dream team

Lilly said he has assembled a team of four legal eagles, including Miami lawyer Maurice Kutner, to take the Yankees' $275 million cleanup hitter to the cleaners.

In an attempt to protect his vast fortune - including lavish homes in Manhattan and Miami and a private jet - A-Rod has hired high-powered matrimonial lawyer Ira Elegant to represent him in the fight.

Elegant was recently hired to represent NBA hoops star Shaquille O'Neal in his divorce from wife, Shaunie.

"Cynthia has made it clear that she's not serious about reconciling," a friend of Alex Rodriguez, 32, told The News.

The A-Rod ally cited Cynthia Rodriguez's trip last week to Paris, where she stayed at the home of rocker pal Lenny Kravitz to clear her head.

Brother: Madonna Kissed Actress Gwyneth Paltrow on the Lips

Apparently, Britney Spears isn't the only A-lister Madonna has smooched.

In his upcoming unauthorized autobiography Life With My Sister Madonna, her brother Christopher Ciccone claims the singer, 49, planted a steamy kiss on BFF Gwyneth Paltrow.

According to an excerpt in British tabloid The Sun, Ciccone writes that Madonna was at a New Year's Eve bash for designer Donatella Versace.

She was dancing on a table at 4 a.m. when she allegedly grabbed Paltrow, 35, pulled her face to hers and kissed her.

Partygoers, Ciccone says, were shocked.

See what a body language expert had to say about other summer smooches.

The same sex kiss is among the bombshells Ciccone claims to reveal in the book.

See more of Madonna's most scandalous moments.

He also writes that Madonna's rocky marriage to Guy Ritchie has survived because of Rabbi Yehuda Berg who has served as a mediator.

The book - due out July 15 - comes out as Us Weekly reports about Madonna's crumbling marriage to Guy Ritchie and secret relationship with Yankees player Alex Rodriguez.

On Monday, Rodriguez's wife Cynthia filed for divorce, citing the ball player's relationship with Madonna as one of the many factors that led to their split. >>>>
